Many people figure we’ll make it into Heaven if we’re good enough. So, how good is good enough? Have you ever worried that you just won’t measure up? Well, according to the Bible, none of us measure up.
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”– Romans 3:23
Unfortunately, this means we deserve God’s justice. Since we’ve broken God’s laws, there is now a penalty to pay for our sins.
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” – The Bible, Romans 6:23
No amount of good works or pleading will pay this penalty. On our own, this situation is hopeless. If we try to pay for our own sin, we will spend forever separated from God in hell.
THE SOLUTION: Trusting in Jesus Christ as Your Savior
God loves us too much to leave us without hope. So, He took on human form and paid the penalty for our sins Himself. The Lord, Jesus Christ, God in the flesh, had no sin of His own. Yet, Jesus voluntarily chose to die for your sins in your place.
When Jesus died, He paid for your sins in full. From the cross, He said “It is finished”. (John 19:30). The greek word for “It is finished” means paid in full. Jesus paid for your sins in full, leaving you nothing to pay for.
All you can do to receive eternal life in Heaven is to believe in Jesus Christ as your Savior.
“For God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in Him [Jesus], should not perish but have everlasting life.” – The Bible, John 3:16
You Can Know for Sure You’re Going to Heaven
God says you can be sure of going to Heaven when you die. The Bible puts it this way:
“These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.”– 1 John 5:13
What does it mean to believe on His name? The name “Jesus” means God who is our Savior. When you put your faith in Jesus Christ, you are trusting in Him to save you. When you do, at that very moment, He gives you the free gift of everlasting life.
Will you, in the quietness of your mind, put your trust in Jesus Christ to save you? He cares about you and really wants to be your Savior. There is no formal prayer you have to say. It is simply understanding that you are a sinner, that you cannot save yourself, and instead you put your trust in what Jesus has done for you as your way to Heaven.
When you do, the Bible says that He then gives you the gift of eternal life, that very moment. From that moment on you are secure forever.
Remember Jesus said:
“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on Me hath everlasting life.” – The Bible, John 6:74
When you believe, you also become God’s child forever. (The Bible, John 1:12). If you chose to rebel, the Bible says He will chasten or discipline you. (Hebrews 12:6). But, He will never cast you out or disown you.
